Ingrid Michaelson is amazing, and (unless you're a New Yorker) you've never heard of her! How can you sleep at night? When you've heard some of her music you'll ask yourself the same thing. I would say she's tows a line between Regina Spektor, Chris Garneau, and maybe Coldplay. She's got an amazing voice, which she uses interestingly, with a lot of subtle dynamics. My sister, a senior vocal performance major, says she loves Ingrid. So she's got to be good, right? If you like the piano + ensemble thing you'll love her. She writes such catchy, simple, and touching songs.
You can buy her second full-length album "Boys and Girls" at the EL Train Store here, and I urge you to do so, because you'll feel better about yourself after supporting such a talented artist. I have stopped listening to everything else for the past 24 hours. Do you understand???
Here are a couple of songs from her album, which you can hear on her MySpace page.
Ingrid Michaelson - Breakable.mp3 :: My favorite track of hers, one of the top 5 songs I've heard all year, hands down. It's catchy as all get-out, and at its climax it swells to an all-encompassing emotional roar.
Ingrid Michaelson - Die Alone.mp3 (sample) :: Another great track, but with somewhat more of a satirical viewpoint. In it she muses that after meeting someone, maybe she wont have to die alone.
